Six Delegates Will Represent Indonesia in Youth Ag-Summit 2015

After a few rounds of shorlisting and interviews, PT Bayer CropScience Indonesia proudly announced the six delegates to represent Indonesia at the Youth Ag-Summit 2015

Jakarta, June 11, 2015 – PT Bayer CropScience Indonesia proudly announced the six delegates to represent Indonesia at the Youth Ag-Summit in Canberra, Australia, on August 24-28, 2015. They were finally chosen after a few rounds of shorlisting and interviews. Indonesia is 1 of 33 countries that participated in the second Youth Ag-Summit. The global event, which is themed “Feeding the Hungry Planet”, is initiated by Future Farmer Network Australia and Bayer CropScience and started in Canada since 2013.

Candidates were invited to apply between October 2014 and January 2015 by submitting a 1,500 words essay, outlining their position and ideas on the underlying causes of food insecurity and its effect on a growing population. Indonesia received overwhelming responses, over 600 entries out of 1800 entries worldwide, to the global event.

“We believe there is a need for young leaders to be engaged in finding sustainable agricultural solutions to the growing global need for safe and nutritious food. The Youth Ag-Summit is an opportunity to broaden the perspectives from others around the world. It will also enable young leaders to further grow personally and develop their knowledge”, stressed Liam Condon, CEO Bayer CropScience.

During the Summit, the delegates identify, connect and create ideas to progress agriculture around the world. This collaborative approach aims to leave them with actionable ideas they take back to their home countries to embed into their personal operations and careers. And to allow the successful delegates hands-on experience on a real farm, PT Bayer CropScience Indonesia is arranging for them to stay with key Bayer farmers. Thus, they will learn a lot of things on farming, especially the obstacles that need real and fast solution for Indonesian rice and corn farmers.

Moreover, the delegates will also learn about the farmers’ lives and help them with a video for the YouFarm competition – the first and only global web video competition for the current generation of farmers and their peers with passion for agriculture. YouFarm International – initiated by Bayer CropScience AG – offers a unique web & social media platform for farmers, entertains and teaches people about modern agriculture and the food on their plates.

“We are proud to be selected to join the program and grateful to be able to learn from the key Bayer farmers, to have the real insight and understanding on farming in Indonesia, especially corn and rice, and focus in finding the solution together, as what Bayer CropScience Indonesia is doing for farmers in Indonesia,” said a delegate.

Bayer CropScience continue the efforts in improving the productivity of rice and corn in Indonesia, as they are the world leading commodity crop to help meet the increasing future global demand toward good food.

Align with the vision, “Science for A Better Life”, Bayer CropScience Indonesia uses its best science and technology to benefit the people of Indonesia and help them to have brighter and better life, by providing sustainable and quality food.
