What the Grants4Apps rocket for you?

Apply now! The third round Grants4Apps Accelerator is open. Entries can be submitted until May 31, 2016.

For the third time, Bayer is rolling out Grants4Apps program to look for digital health startups. Entries can be submitted until end of May 2016, and in June, panel of expert judges will select the winners.

The winners will then move into the Grants4Apps Accelerator on the Bayer campus in Berlin for three and a half months from August to December 2016. The Accelerator offers dedicated office space for each of the five digital health startups, where they will then be able to work on developing their projects and business models. During this time, Bayer will be providing the startups with experienced managers as coaches and offering intensive mentoring by external entrepreneurs.  Each of the newly established companies will also be given up to EUR 50,000 of financial support.

All Bayer employees can enter with their own projects or try their hand as idea scouts by acquiring external startups for the program. If their candidate is among the five winners and the name of the Bayer employee is entered on the entry form, they stand to win EUR 1,000. “We had a go last year and were pleasantly surprised by the result,” says del Valle. “A total of 46 ideas were submitted at the instigation of Bayer employees, and 17 employees took the bold step of entering their own ideas or prototypes,” said project manager Dr Yesus del Valle.

A total of 215 startups from 48 countries responded to the call last year. Europe and Latin America in particular were strongly represented, but numerous entries also came from Asia – and especially from China. “That motivated us to roll out the concept in other countries,” adds del Valle. Spin-offs of the program exist in Barcelona, Moscow, Shanghai and Tokyo. In Japan, founders from the digital health sector are given purely financial support. In Spain, China and Russia, the package includes “co-working space.” Bayer offers free use of office space and expertise and actively supports the startups in the early phase of their development.
