Arize® 6444 Gold, a revolutionary hybrid rice seeds launched in Indonesia
A new generation of hybrid rice seeds, Arize® H 6444 Gold, offers double benefits - the potential of great harvest and a protection from Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB)
Jakarta, April 25, 2016 – PT Bayer Indonesia today launched Gold Arize® H6444, a revolutionary hybrid rice seeds - the first type available in Indonesia - with the potential for big harvest and strong protection against Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB), the dreaded disease in rice, which can cause quite detrimental damage to the crops, especially in the rainy season.
Ashraf Al-Ouf, President Director of PT Bayer Indonesia: "Arize® H6444 Gold is a major breakthrough of our Crop Science Division. In Indonesia, BLB affects more than 7 million hectares of farmland each year and causes great loss of harvest. This disease can fall on rice plants at any stage of growth and make seeds so withered, turn yellow, and the leaves dry out, thus causing the loss of harvests up to 20-60%, depends on the severity and stage of the crop when infection occurs. Arize®6444 Gold has the ability to ensure the high harvests and effective against BLB. Arize® H6444 Gold offers qualified rice harvest which is solid and profitable, and this will add value to Indonesian agriculture. Through Arize® H6444 Gold, we continue to provide Bayer innovative science for Indonesia, such as our commitment to help Indonesian society to aim for a better life quality."
Speaking of hybrids, Mohan Babu (Country Head Crop Science Division, Malaysia & Indonesia): "Hybrid rice seeds Arize® 6444 Gold which is aromatic, with half slim grains offer the harvest advantage of 20-35% more than the existing open pollinated varieties. In the case of BLB attack, the increase in harvest is very significantly compared to the traditional inbred or other hybrid varieties. Bayer crop Science now offers seeds and crop protection solutions through an integrated platform. This concept has proved very successful to provide a comprehensive crop management solutions for farmers in all developing countries as the main producer of rice, and is now available in Indonesia."
BLB disease, which is caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas oryzae pathovar oryzae is estimated to lead to significant annual economic loss in Indonesia. The situation is even more challenging for farmers because there is no effective chemical treatment available for this disease.
"The rice yields increase is one of the main aspects of the major challenges in Indonesia, today," added Amit Trikha, Head of Seeds of Crop Science Division of Bayer Asia Pacific. " Indonesia is the third developing country in the world with more than 13 million hectares of crops. In addition, there is a need to rise the national production capacity so that the country can achieve national targets in food sufficiency. With the hybrid rice seed from Bayer, Indonesian farmers would be empowered related to their goals to achieve high yields, and this was proven particularly compared to open pollinated varieties or inbred varieties. Arize® H6444 Gold produced through a very modern integrated seeding approach that combines effectively the plant pathology methodology and molecular markers technology. "
Last Friday on April 8, 2016 there were more than 700 farmers from across Lampung witnessed the Arize® H6444 Gold performance in soil testing and they will be the first farmers to implement this revolutionary technology in Indonesia in the next planting season.
