Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia joined hands
on September 26 to launch the first-ever World
Contraception Day, a global awareness campaign aimed
at reducing the high levels of unintended pregnancy,
thus raising the standard of family planning.
In Jakarta, Indonesia, the launch took place at the National Family Planning Coordination
Board (BKKBN) office. Dr Sugiri Syarief, MPA, Head of BKKBN together with Prof Biran Affandi,
Member of the Asia Pacific Council on Contraception, and Mr Angel-Michael Evangelista, Country Division Head of Bayer Schering Pharma Indonesia,witnessed the launch.
Distinguished representatives from the Indonesian Midwives Association and the People’s Representative Council were invited to share their insights
with more than 40 media who attended.
A fair in 19 malls across 10 cities in Indonesia was also held followed by a series of media
education workshops in four main cities to further reinforce the messages to the masses.
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a good number of media attended the media launch. Mr Ashraf
Al-Ouf, Country Division Head of Bayer Schering Pharma Malaysia, opened the session, followed by
Dr Kamaruzaman Ali, Chairman of Federation of Family Planning Associations, Malaysia, who

In Singapore, Bayer employees attended an “Empowering Women” Forum. Organized by
BSP Asia Pacifi c Headquarters,the internal event successfully positioned the integrated
company and its Women’s Healthcare Business Unit to more than 60 employees across the
subgroups and service groups.
