After the Great Yogyakarta Quake

Jakarta, 20 April 2009 – In May 2006, Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas suffered great damage as s result of an earthquake. Bayer in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische fur Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) took the initiative to help the local community through the Good Local Governance and Science Education Quality Improvement Project.
Several programs for the community were implemented. Besides the reconstruction of a school, training programs for students, teachers, contractors and workers were also implemented.
Late last year, PT Bayer Indonesia officially handed over the new school building - Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) Mayungan II to the local government of Klaten Regency, Central Java. The building had suffered damage as aresult of the earthquake, but today it stands strong having been rebuilt with earthquake-resistant materials.
"We are very proud to hand over the building of SDN Mayungan II to the people and government of Klaten Regency," said Hans-Josef Schill, President Director of PT Bayer Indonesia.
The new school building has facilities like classrooms, teacher's room, a hall, laboratory, park, playground, and aroom for religious services.
