Before the deadly wave struck, Aceh province was host to decades-long civil conflict between the Indonesian central government and the seperatist 'Free Aceh Movement' (GAM), claiming lives on both sides.Along with the relief aid, the 'Helsinski-MOU' was signed in August 2005 as the crucial step for peace and develolment.
The response to teh disaster was unprecedented. With the mission to reach out to the affected people,Bayer pledged EUR 500.000 to the reconstruction of the destroyed region in order to create a better future.
The vision was to direct the donation unbureaucraticly in a transparant and accountable manner to those in need.
